Usborne Book fair at Oakfields school

Nikki, Angela and I attended Oakfield school this week and set up an Usborne Book fair which the parents and children attended after Mrs Fairhurst, the head teacher gave a very informative talk about how the parents could help their children with reading. We sold quite a lot of books and are returning later in the month when they are celebrating National Story Telling month by holiding an Alice in Wonderland day. Following that, we will be giving FREE books to the school (of their choice) as their commission. We love giving away FREE books and Usborne have a brilliant commission structure whereby we can give up to 60% in FREE books or 40% in cash discount to schools and other organisations. See Lyns Book Biz for details. Not only do we have school book fairs but also sponsored reads and sponsored listens (Ready Steady Read/Listen) and we also have a community book pledge where local businesses big or small, can donate a book(s) to local school. This can be organised for any school. Brading school recently held a sponsored read and will soon be choosing their FREE books. Many local businesses have been donating books to local schools too. We are looking forward to giving away more FREE books soon.

I really, really love my job. How many people can actually say that these days? I decide when and where I work and who I want to work with. This morning I have had a lie in and now i am up and refreshed and ready to go!!! Just deciding which part of the business to work first. I have so many choices. I can work with schools organising book fairs and ready steady reads (sponsored reads) I can go and see individual customers and advise them on the suitability of book choices and sit and drink coffee while they look at books or catalogues ( a far cry from my teaching days!) I can help charities with fundraising via my business. I am taking part in the community book pledge where local businesses donate books to local schools. I can also help people to grow their own Usborne businesses. It costs just £19 to become an Usborne organiser and then the more you put in, the more you get out.
There is a lot of support and help along the way and many people run their Usborne business alongside another job as I did initially. I was a supply teacher and mixed and matched my teaching and my “Usborneing”!! Finally I made the jump to full time Usborne and have never looked back. Whilst I enjoyed many of my years teaching, Usborne gives me the complete freedom to do what I want when I want and I have had so much fun. In my opinion, they are the best company with which to be involved. They give us all the tools to build our businesses and they reward us well with great incentives. It is less than a month now until 43 Usborne organisers jet off to join a five day cruise stopping at Mexico and Miami!! Usborne treat us so well. Some of us are also going on a day trip to Paris in March and are being treated to a meal up the EIffel Tower and a trip down the Seine! We have just had the fun of the Gala awards and the conference and many of us have been tempted to get very busy by the prospect of a trip on the Orient Express in the Autumn. What I love about my job is that I can make a difference to families lives. I can help to grow readers (Usborne’s new Grow readers initiative) and I can also help families during the credit crunch by helping anyone over 18 to earn extra by becoming an Usborne organiser. Why not come and join my Usborne family? or benefit from being an Usborne customer. Let me look after all your Usborne needs

Oh dear, I haven’t blogged since 22nd September that’s nearly 2 weeks. A lot has happened and I have been very, very busy!
I have been to Basingstoke for one of Val’s brilliant Usborne training days. I went with Angela and Claire. Then I went to a networking evening at the Lakeside restautant which has recently opened for business. I would like to say a big thank you to the owners as they have also made a generous donation of Usborne books to Oakfield school as have David Acheson of Locallife, Peter Tomlinson and Jon Carter of Beta Pak, Joanna of Fusion Arts and Tina and Di
Angela and I will be running a book fair at Oakfield school on Monday and it will have a fairytale theme. We will have lots of Usborne books on display and we will have plenty of bargains to tempt the parents.
I also fitted in a two day trip to do granny duty and had a lovely time with the girls. We walked in the park and collected conkers and watched squirrels! It was super.
I set up another book sale at the Badgers (junior part of St Johns ambulance) fun day at Binstead and sold more books there.
The last day of the month was quite an interesting day. It was the last day of an Usborne travel incentive – a trip to Mexico and Miami and I was still quite a long way off but thanks to a lot of my new Usborne organisers who put on orders, the points came in and I achieved the points (about 12 points over) and 25 minutes to spare – the cut off was midnight. I thought I was a last minute lil but 3 girls came in after midnight – the last one at 11.55 pm!!!!! On Wednesday next, on or executive club day out, the company will confirm the winners!

Angela is a superstar – she helped me sort out the books in the stock room!! I am exhibiting at Olympia next week at the Early Years Teaching exhibition . It was a big task and she left my house at silly o’clock but good job well done.

I set up another display for the parents at Shalfleet school and more lovely books were sold in this, the National Year of Reading.

It has been a very busy time and we are now approaching Book week which again will be busy with book fairs etc.
I am just now preparing to go and promote everything “Usborne” at the Big day out in Freshwater tomorrow.
I don’t think I ought to leave such a big gap betweens blogs next time!!

It was an exciting and busy day yesterday. I was chatting to my first recruit from Spain who is just about to sign up. I have recruits in France already but am about to branch out further round Europe. I also have someone interested in Italy. With a free starter kit this month its a great time for anyone to join
One of the local schools is having a pirate day and has asked me to set up a book fair to link in and as we have lots of pirate titles this will work nicely – although I will of course offer many more titles from our range of 1500+
Another school has asked me to set up a book fair and they are having a fairytale theme so again I can set my display accordingly. I will also be looking for a local business who would like to pledge some books. The school would like to make gingerbread men etc linking in with the theme and a book pledged by a local business would be a nice guesture in this the National Year of Reading (Usborne are running a community book pledge) other businesses also might like to pledge books for prizes to be won on the day.
I am off to the college today where I will set up at the Freshers fair and will also be displaying the recruiting information for anyone who wants to earn extra before Christmas.

It was another long day for me yesterday. Up at silly o’clock and on a 7 am ferry to sell these gorgeous scrummy Usborne books!! So many people use the leisure centre and they all have to come past my stand on the way in and on the way out. I had lots of customers and sold lots of Usborne books! I also have the names of some people who may want to join the business and take part in this brilliant franchise! This week it is only £5 to join. Please talk to me as there is no time to lose. The pack becomes £10 next week. I must remember to fill up with diesel tomorrow. I don’t want to end up stranded by the A34 like I did last Wednesday until the Knight in the shining RAC van arrived (Paul is his name!!|||||)He was brilliant

Show Notes for Podcast 10
Bob the Shedman very generously donated some Usborne Books to the Sandham Middle school library. Alison Bloodworth, the School Librarian happily accepted these books from Bob and the scene was captured and can be seen here.

Where did that last week go? It was a very busy week but I can’t believe more than as week has gone by since I blogged so I had better put that right!! I better look in the diary to see what I did!!

I have to mention the manic day I had last Thursday. As usual, I went to the Island Business Network breaskfast meeting at the Riverside centre in Newport. Gary of radi8, my geek (someone who knows all the technical stuff to do with my website etc!!), Bob the Shedman and I all attend this meeting but we had another meeting arranged at my house. Bob very kindly pledged some books in the Usborne Community Book pledge and the books were being donated to Sandham middle school. Gary and I were doing a podcast with Bob (but without Polly of the Rainbow Directory this week as she was busy with publication of the directory) but there was much to be done before the podcast! Life was manic as usual. We had to dash to Sandown and wash my van! well I say we but for that read Gary (thanks Gary) and then take it to A1 signs of Sandown 01983 405677 .

Dave worked on my van while Gary and I dashed off with Bob to do a photoshoot of the children with Alison, the librarian and the children receiving the FREE Usborne books on behalf of the school. We then popped round to my house to do the latest podcast with Bob and then later in the day I returned to Sandown (thanks Gary for the lift) and WOW what a brilliant job Dave of A1 signs did. I have waited 3 years to get my van done but what a brilliant job. It looks fantastic and that was greatly endorsed on Tuesday and yesterday by lots of people when I attended the Usborne Executive club conference and the Summer conference. There were so many wonderful comments. Gary took some pictures and as he is in his office this afternoon, I am sure he will be posting the pictures of the van. You will then be able to see both Gary’s and Dave’s work Gary designed the graphics and Dave took great care in applying them. I was so excited!! It will promote my business BIG TIME. Money extremely well spent!!
