Wikaniko Publishing / May Blossom
Exciting times! Wikaniko have just published the first book in a series of 12.
This charming set of beautifully illustrated and printed books will be a delightful series to collect for the age range of 4 – 7 years. Each of these lovely books comes with an audio CD of the story. These audios make the story come to life for the child. The books make perfect gifts, and children of all ages will enjoy sharing a year in the life of Lucie and her family. May Blossom is a charming book with family values which will delight all ages, whether as a reader or listener.
Ruth has written the following for the launch of her new book.
Ruth Allin begins a new life as a children’s author
I am still relatively new to the writing scene, having discovered a deeply buried desire to write towards the end of 2008. I completed my first children’s story in November 2008, which has since developed into a series of twelve stories about Lucie and her family. May Blossom is the first of the twelve to be published, with the newly established Wikaniko Publishing Company. I also completed a children’s novel in late 2009, and am part way through the sequel. Along the way, I have written other children’s stories, and stories that the perpetual child will enjoy, be they eight or eighty.
I grew up as part of a family of six children in rural Suffolk. We enjoyed many holidays in remote rural locations, camping with our family, and we all developed a love of the outdoors which is evident in my writing. Words were always important in my childhood, and I well remember the well thumbed dictionary and thesaurus that lived on the shelf next to the dining table. We had many discussions about word usage, and Scrabble was a popular evening entertainment in the days when children’s television ended at 6pm.
I draw on my own memories when I write, as well as from enjoying activities and play with children in my various voluntary roles as a Brownie Guider, a Sunday School leader and a volunteer in school. My many nieces and nephews are another source of inspiration, as are my two daughters.
The launch of May Blossom is the end result of the many hours of discussion and the emails that flew back and forth after the initial offer. It is the beginning of Wikaniko Publishing, and we all hope it is the beginning of a new career for me. Wikaniko Ltd, and now Wikaniko Publishing, are committed to helping people to become greener in lifestyle, reducing the negative impact that they have on the environment. The Wikaniko website is solar powered, and Wikaniko are as environmentally friendly as they possibly can be and they operate in such a way as to minimise waste as much as possible.
